Biggest Ever Football Session: the next generation of girls in football

We joined The FA team at the Biggest Ever Football Session on Friday, 7th March, as 300,000 girls took part across the country.

With this being the fourth year of the campaign, we decided to incorporate new elements to make it even more accessible and enticing for girls of all ages with varied interests.

We wanted to tie into the new Made For This Game campaign, showcasing that girls have a place in football with opportunities to get involved on and off the pitch from playing to coaching, refereeing or journalism.

In two hero locations, London and Manchester, we were able to spotlight the sessions and the campaign.

At each location we facilitated one indoor and one outdoor session, showcasing the breadth of opportunities that exist for young girls and women to get involved in football.

Leading the sessions were a variety of talent within women’s football including former players Rachel Yankey and Steph Houghton, grassroots referee Surekha Griffiths, as well as journalists Emma Sanders and Miriam Walker-Khan.

Here’s to inspiring and finding the next Rachel Yankey, Steph Houghton, Surekha Griffiths, Emma Sanders, and Miriam Walker-Khan!
